Maths at school. Many agonizing hours filled with knowledge which I have never used since; apart from calculating percentages and the rule of three. But who would have thought that all that mathemathical stuff regarding circles could be important in baking! Like how can I find the center of a cake board to fix a central dowel for my cake? Or how can I calculate how long my piece of ribbon/fondant has to be for it to wrap around the cake? More maths skills relating to everyday life might have made me more attentative back in school.
- a) To calculate the center of a circle – check out my sketch
- b) To calcalate the circumference of your cake multiply the diameter with “pi”, e.g. 20 cm diamter x 3,14 = 62,8 cm
